The Kavrepalanchok district administration announced a night closure on the BP Highway: 5 pm to 5 am, from 24 to 28 September, because of flood and landslide risk. Separately, Nepal's disaster authority has been posting updates on the Rasuwa–Bhotekoshi flood. If you need to travel, check the latest road notice on the day you leave. A notice from yesterday may already be out of date.
Before you leave
Check that your route is open. Then check where you can charge on that route. A closed road can turn a planned charging stop into a long detour. Our charging map shows published locations, but it cannot tell you whether a charger is working or free right now. If you must rely on one, check its operator's app or call the site. Make sure the plug fits your car.
Leave enough charge to reach another stop if the first charger is unavailable. There is no single battery percentage that works for every trip. Hills, traffic and a detour can all change how far you get. The range number on the dashboard is an estimate. If you cannot confirm the road or a charging stop, wait until you can.
If water covers the road
Turn around. Do not drive through it, even if another vehicle has crossed. You cannot see a missing section of road or an open drain under the water. Moving water can also push a car off the road. The Tiago EV manual supplied by Tata Motors Nepal says not to drive through flooded areas and warns that flowing water can affect the car's handling.
A sealed EV battery does not make a flooded road safe. The car's stated wading depth does not tell you whether the road beneath the water is intact.
If floodwater reached your EV
Do not charge it or try to drive it. Keep away from damaged electrical parts and do not open the battery case. Contact the dealer or a qualified EV technician and explain where the water reached. Follow the owner's manual when arranging recovery. If you can take photos safely, keep them for the insurer.
The Curvv EV manual supplied by Tata Motors Nepal says to switch off and leave a car that is partly or fully submerged. It says not to restart a flooded vehicle, and to have it towed to an authorised EV service centre. Follow the instructions for your own model; if you see smoke or hear unusual sounds, move away and call emergency services.
Ordinary rain is different from a flooded car. Outdoor chargers can be used in rain when they are installed and used as directed. That does not mean a car that sat in floodwater is safe to plug in. Have it inspected first.
