Electric cars under Rs 30 lakh in Nepal: a practical shortlist
Compare documented Comet, Kaiyi and Tiago prices, understand the different range claims, and leave room for insurance and charging work.
Rs 30 lakh buys several very different kinds of electric car. You can spend much less on a small city car, or use almost the entire budget on a hatchback with easier rear-seat access. The difficult part is deciding which one will work for your family after the showroom visit.
Start with the parking space. Then count the people who travel together on an ordinary day. A low price loses its appeal quickly if a parent struggles to reach the rear seat, or if charging means moving somebody else's car every night.
This shortlist uses Nepal distributor pages checked on 3 October 2026. It is a comparison of published prices and specifications, not a road test. Website prices do not establish stock or the final amount on your invoice.
Six listed variants below the ceiling
| Car and trim on the source page | Published vehicle price | Money left from Rs 30 lakh, before other costs |
|---|---|---|
| MG Comet Executive | Rs 18,75,000 | Rs 11,25,000 |
| MG Comet Excite | Rs 21,50,000 | Rs 8,50,000 |
| Kaiyi e-Qute 02 | From Rs 22,96,000 | Rs 7,04,000 |
| Kaiyi e-Qute 04 | From Rs 25,96,000 | Rs 4,04,000 |
| Tata Tiago EV LR XT | Rs 27,49,000 | Rs 2,51,000 |
| Tata Tiago EV LR XZ+ TECH | Rs 29,99,000 | Rs 1,000 |
Price sources: GO Automobiles' Comet page, Kaiyi Nepal's lineup and Sipradi's Tiago booking page. The last column is subtraction, not an estimate of registration, insurance or installation costs.
That Rs 1,000 beside the top Tiago matters. If Rs 30 lakh is your total cash limit, a Rs 29.99 lakh vehicle needs an inclusive offer to fit. Ask the showroom to write the delivered amount before paying a booking deposit.
Comet: consider how often you use the back seats
The Comet is worth looking at when most journeys involve one or two people and parking is tight. Its Nepal page lists four seats, a 17.3 kWh battery and a 230 km ARAI range claim. Its listed length is 2,974 mm. That short body is useful when checking a small garage, although the doors still need room to open.
Sit in the back before dismissing or choosing it. A child may be happy climbing in; an older passenger may find the same movement difficult. Bring the school bags or shopping basket you normally carry. See what fits with every occupied seat left upright.
The Executive-to-Excite price gap is Rs 2.75 lakh. Compare the equipment on those two Nepal trims instead of assuming the dearer one brings a larger battery. The page lists connected and infotainment features for Excite. Whether you would pay that difference for them is a household decision.
For charging, have the dealer show the socket and the supplied equipment on the offered car. Confirm its supported AC rate and whether that exact version accepts DC charging. Do not plan a highway stop because a station appears on a map; the car and the station must use compatible hardware.
Kaiyi: the brochure adds detail the headline leaves out
The local e-Qute 02 brochure lists a 28.08 kWh battery and 301 km CLTC range. Its dimensional table gives a 3,345 mm body length. The website rounds the range to 300 km. Neither number is a measured Kathmandu-to-Pokhara result.
The e-Qute 04 brochure lists the same battery capacity and CLTC claim, a 3,695 mm body and five seats. It also lists fast charging, with a 30–80% charging claim. These facts make it worth a separate visit if the smaller 02 is awkward for your passengers.
The listed price difference between them is Rs 3 lakh. There is little reason to pay it merely for the range number, since both brochures give the same claim. Spend the showroom time on rear access, seating, luggage and the charging equipment instead.
The 04 sheet does not establish the connector standard just by saying “fast charging.” Ask to see it connect to the kind of charger you expect to use. Obtain the Nepal warranty document and the workshop address serving your town. A worldwide dealer count will not tell you how a damaged headlamp gets to your local workshop.
Tiago: read the trim name on the quotation
Sipradi's booking page currently shows LR XT and LR XZ+ TECH. You may also encounter Pure and Creative names in newer listings. Do not combine one version's price with another version's equipment. Have the trim, battery and included charger written together on the quotation.
For the Nepal LR specification, Tata's local brochure lists a 24 kWh battery, CCS2 charging and a 3.3 kW wall box as the included charger. It gives a 291 km ARAI certified figure and a separate 205 km C75 estimate. The latter is Tata's estimated driving range, not a promise for every load, season or hill route.
A Tiago deserves a look if you need a small hatchback and want to use CCS2 public chargers. Check how much room remains once the driver's seat is set for the tallest person in the family. A boot-volume figure cannot show whether your pushchair fits through the opening.
The LR XT price leaves Rs 2.51 lakh below the vehicle-price ceiling. The top listed version leaves almost nothing. Equipment differences need to be useful enough to justify giving up that margin.
Why BYD Atto 1 is outside this list
Cimex's current price list gives Rs 30.75 lakh for Atto 1 Dynamic and Rs 34.80 lakh for Premium. Older Atto 1 prices still appear online. We have not used them to pull the current Dynamic below Rs 30 lakh.
If a dealer offers one for less, ask whether it is the same trim, older stock or a conditional promotion. A valid dated quote can change your own shortlist. It does not make an old internet price current again. Our Atto 1–Tiago comparison explains the present price gaps.
Range numbers will not rank these cars fairly
This list includes ARAI, CLTC and C75 claims. They use different methods. Reading 301, 230 and 205 as a single league table would give a false impression of precision.
For a useful first calculation, suppose your driving uses 15 kWh per 100 km. That is an assumption for this example, not a test result for any car here. A 50 km day needs 7.5 kWh at the battery before allowing for charging losses. Replacing that energy through a suitable 3.3 kW supply takes at least about 2.3 hours in ideal conditions. The actual time depends on the car, supply and losses.
This tells you why an overnight charging arrangement can matter more than a large brochure number for a short commute. For a long journey, plan the energy needed between working, compatible chargers and keep a reserve. Our range-label guide explains the claims in more detail.
Take the budget to the electrician as well as the showroom
Before booking, get separate written amounts for the vehicle, insurance, registration, any annual tax due and charger installation. If the wall box is included, ask what wiring, earthing, protective devices and labour are included with it. Use a qualified electrician to assess the parking supply; an ordinary extension lead is not an installation plan.
For a rented house or apartment, settle permission and the electricity bill arrangement first. Read our home-charging guide or apartment guide before assuming the nearest socket is yours to use.
Then take the family on the same sort of route you drive every week. Try the parking entrance, a hill start and rear-seat access. You will learn more from those ordinary tasks than from a short acceleration demonstration.
Use the car catalogue to broaden the search. This article is a source-checked starting list, not a claim that every other small EV is unavailable. If the cars here do not meet your needs, the Rs 40 lakh guide looks at what a higher budget actually buys.
